With the initiative “Energy Systems of the Future” (ESYS), acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities provide impulses for the debate on the challenges and opportunities of the German energy transition. The Academies’ Project assembles more than 160 experts from science and research to develop policy options for the implementation of a secure, affordable and sustainable energy supply. ESYS was launched in April 2013 and will be funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) until December 2023. For this project, acatech is the lead institution.
