The substantive work of ESYS is carried out in different formats. Working Groups (WGs) play a prominent role. They bring together experts from different disciplines and address specific questions concerning the implementation of a secure, affordable and sustainable energy supply. ESYS content can also be developed through alternative working processes, for example on the basis of expert workshops and/or interviews with selected specialists.
The Headquarters “Energy Systems of the Future”, together with the Directorate, is responsible for the substantive and operational management of ESYS and implements its work. The Headquarters is located at the acatech offices in Munich (Karolinenplatz 4) and Berlin (Georgenstraße 25).

In the ESYS — Energiesysteme der Zukunft initiative, energy experts from academia and corporate research departments work in interdisciplinary working groups to develop ideas and options for action for implementing a secure, affordable and sustainable energy supply. ESYS is a joint initiative of acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering (lead), the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Union of German Academies of Sciences and Humanities. ESYS was launched in April 2013 is and funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
